Privacy Indicator

Privacy Indicator is a notification area applet (application indicator) for the top panel of Ubuntu’s Unity desktop environment.

The goal of Privacy Indicator is to make it easy it change settings that influence the user’s privacy or the automatic collection of data and to delete automatically collected data.

Privacy Indicator is alpha software. So far it seems to work for me and a lot of other users but it may have severe bugs I didn’t noticed yet. Use it at your own risk.

If you found a bug or have an idea for other settings Privacy Indicator should support please file a bug report

Privacy Indicator needs the “Unity” desktop environment that is used as the default desktop for Ubuntu.

All software packages needed by Privacy Indicator are installed by default on Ubuntu.

Privacy Indicator is developed and tested with Ubuntu 14.04 “Trusty Tahr” and Ubuntu 14.10 “Utopic Unicorn”. It doesn’t work with older versions.

Privacy Indicator is available from the PPA(“Personal Package Archive”) for Ubuntu 14.04 “Trusty Tahr” and Ubuntu 14.10 “Utopic Unicorn”:

If you add this PPA to your software sources Ubuntu’s Update manager will automatically install newer versions of Privacy Indicator, when they are available.

If you don’t know how to do this see this explanation.

Depending on how busy the Launchpad build servers are it may take a few hours for the PPA to get new packages after a release.
